Profile

I'm a professional writer of fantasy novels and short stories, with the occasional foray into science-fiction and darker fantasy. My first novel, The Thief's Gamble, was published in January 1999, first of The Tales of Einarinn (five in all). Eastern Tide, my ninth book, concluded The Aldabreshin Compass, a four volume sequence. That was followed by The Chronicles of the Lescari Revolution, a trilogy beginning with Irons in the Fire. Most recently I've written The Hadrumal Crisis trilogy; Dangerous Waters, Darkening Skies and Defiant Peaks.

Currently exploring new opportunities in digital publishing, I've re-issued my first two series as ebooks in association with Wizard’s Tower Press as well as bringing out original fiction. Most recently, Shadow Histories of the River Kingdom offers a wholly new and different fantasy world to you explore. In between novels, I write diverse shorter fiction, ranging from stories for themed anthologies such as Alien Artifacts and Fight Like A Girl through a handful of tales for Doctor Who, Torchwood and Warhammer 40k to forays into dark fantasy and steampunk with Challoner, Murray and Balfour: Monster Hunters at Law.

I review for web and print magazines as well as blogging on book trade issues, attending conventions and teaching creative writing. I'll be commenting on my favourite music, books, films and tv shows, as the mood takes me. I live in Oxfordshire, UK, with my husband, the Resident Son, now that the Student Son is away and university, and our cat.
